The CocoNuts conducted coach training at St. Michael's Indian School on the Navajo Nation, empowering over 40 adults to build and program FTC robots. They successfully launched 12 new Rez FTC teams across Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico and hosted the first all-Indigenous FTC qualifier at Diné College in Tsaile, AZ, attracting 150 kids from the Reservation. With special permission from FIRST, the Inspire winner was sent to compete at the FIRST World Championship, and three Rez teams qualified for the AZFTC Championship.
The CocoNuts hosted the AZFTC kickoff at Arizona State University, one of the largest events in the West, with over 45 teams and more than 335 students and 120 mentors in attendance. Participants engaged in 25 workshops, including five led by the CocoNuts. A total of 48 teams competed across two divisions on four fields.
Since 2021, they’ve supported FIRST at all levels statewide, running 34 tournaments, scrimmages, and kickoff events, while assisting with 35 others. This effort has totaled over 12,500 hours and reached more than 40,000 people.
The CocoNuts provide training for teachers on how to build and program robots, offering professional development hours for their participation. Over the past three years, they've helped establish 21 new FLL teams and currently mentor 16 local FIRST teams, fostering growth and innovation in robotics education.
